Evaluation of lung tumor oxygenation using FREDOM and TOLD

چکیده
Introduction: Tumor oxygenation plays an important role in malignant progression, metastasis and response to various therapies. F MR oximetry based on the reporter molecule hexafluorobenzene (HFB) using the FREDOM (Fluorocarbon Relaxometry using Echo planar imaging for Dynamic Oxygen Mapping) approach offers quantitative measurements of pO2 with spatial and temporal resolution allowing the dynamic evaluation of response to interventions (1). Blood Oxygenation Level Dependent (BOLD) MRI based on T2* contrast induced by [deoxyhemoglobin], is sensitive to tumor vascular oxygenation and blood flow. Recently, studies have suggested a possibility of assessing tissue oxygenation based on the shortening of the tissue water T1 due to oxygen. This new approach has been named Tissue Oxygenation Level Dependent (TOLD) (2). Here, we explore the quantitative relationship between these techniques in assessing tumor oxygenation in response to hyperoxic gas breathing in human lung tumors growing in rats.

Tumor physiological changes during hypofractionated stereotactic body radiation therapy assessed using multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging
Radiation therapy is a primary treatment for non-resectable lung cancer and hypoxia is thought to influence tumor response. Hypoxia is expected to be particularly relevant to the evolving new radiation treatment scheme of hypofractionated stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). As such, we sought to develop non-invasive tools to assess tumor pathophysiology and response to irradiation. We a...
متن کاملEffect of Lung Manual Hyperinflation (MHI) on Oxygenation of Patients Following Abdominal Surgery and T-Tube Support
Background: Postoperative pulmonary complications (PPC) are of the major reasons for death. Prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV) and delayed extubation are leading to the incidence of more seriously complications. The effect of hyperinflation has not been investigated in control of these complications in patients who have been weaned from mechanical ventilation and are undergoing T-tube suppo...
متن کاملEvaluation of the dose and flux of secondary particles in the lung tissue in breast proton therapy using the Monte Carlo simulation code
Unlike proton therapy, conventional radiation therapy directs X-rays not only at the tumor but also unavoidably at nearby healthy tissue. Protons deliver radiation to tumor tissue while the healthy structures will be spared during proton therapy. When protons travel through matter, secondary particles like neutrons and photons are produced. It is believed that the secondary dose can lead to sec...
متن کاملEvaluation of methods of co-segmentation on PET/CT images of lung tumor: simulation study
Introduction: Lung cancer is one of the most common causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Nowadays PET/CT plays an essential role in radiotherapy planning specially for lung tumors as it provides anatomical and functional information simultaneously that is effective in accurate tumor delineation. The optimal segmentation method has not been introduced yet, however several ...
متن کاملA quantitative investigation on lung tumor site on its motion tracking in radiotherapy with external surrogates
Introduction: In external beam radiotherapy each effort is done to deliver 3D dose distribution onto the tumor volume uniformly, while minimizing the dose to healthy organs at the same time. Radiation treatment of tumors located at thorax region such as lung and liver has a challenging issue during target localization since these tumors move mainly due to respiration. There are...
